About Us
We are a sustainable slow fashion and lifestyle accessory brand. We stand for sustainability in crafts, materials, processes and design. We know that the Indian artisans have held a very strong and significant place in the economic growth and stability of the Indian economy. Indian crafts have made a place in the global market, not recently but centuries ago. However, in the recent years pertaining to factors such as commercialisation, technological shift and a change in lifestyle, the craft sector has seen a demands change. This has lead to many artisans loosing their bread and butter. This is where we step in. We at Shoonya aspire to offer these artisans a stable source of income through the utilisation of their skills with lease of useful design. We act as a bridge between these indigenous talents and the rest of the world while emphasising the use of natural yarns and indigenous raw material for the development of our products. With our focus on women empowerment, we encourage and welcome women artisans to join us. We are flexible to the fact that each of these women have multiple roles to play in their own lives. Facilitating access to raw material, ease of work, design insights and trainings where necessary, they are able to give in their best to us. While we are at it, we have addressed the revival of some dying crafts such as Portuguese Knitting, Bobbin lace making and Petit Point embroidery. Our goal is to spread aware about these and inspire the next generation to follow in the footsteps of their forbearers. Sustainability does not lie alone in buying less and using more. Anything and everything that has the power to take roots and stand strong, is known to sustain the test of time. Sustainability lies in the practices embraced while developing a product. Sustainability reflects in the raw material used and most importantly in the fact that a particular craft has been carried on over generations. So join us in our strive to “Sustain the roots”.
